I seem to have gotten addicted to cycling again. I have decided to ride in the MS 150, with Team Shadowcatcher. Let me explain:
What is the MS 150? The MS 150 Bike Tour is a fully-supported, two-day road ride, featuring a gorgeous route and fun rider village, organized by the National MS Society, to raise money to assist those who have MS and to research a cure.
What is Multiple Sclerosis? MS is a disease of the central nervous system that attacks healthy tissue, causing symptoms from blurred vision to paralysis. It strikes early (usually 20-30 year olds) and there is no cure. MS is mysteriously prevalent in thePacific Northwest. This is why we ride!
Don’t ride? You can still help fight MS! To sponsor a rider, visit www.bikems.com/pledge
My plan is to commute by bike, weather permitting, as often as I can.If my fitness gets good enough, then I plan to ride up the Alpe D’Huez in August of 2007. Google that one if you don’t know what it is…!
Wish me luck!

Is it OK to have a little hero worship at my age? I hope so, because I had a fabulous weekend. I got to meet a hero of mine, Greg LeMond! He is the honorary chairperson for the Tour de Cure and spoke Thursday night prior to the Saturday ride. I got there early and sat front and center, and if you look close to the crowd photo, you can see me and my silly grin…
I could have sat for hours listening to his stories…
and I got to meet him…

So on Saturday, I went to the Tour de Cure, and I completed 50 miles instead of my goal of 100. Had I not been an idiot and injured myself at the dunes with the quad, I think I could have done the 100 miles. As it was, I did the 50 and feel great. My legs don’t hurt like I thought they would and I am ready to go again. I was standing around the LeMond display before the ride long enough that they tossed me a LeMond jersey, so I got to start off with his group and got in some of the company photos! Of course, I got dropped on the first hill, but it was quite a thrill for me.
So look for me next year for SURE…!

Well, Dr Timmerman is an idiot. During a weekend with friends riding quads at the dunes in Moses Lake, he had a mishap
that injured him pretty good. X-rays at the ER show no broken ribs, but simple things like sneezing bring him near tears.
So, the bike ride on May 20th is different now. He will still ride, but he is shooting for 50 miles instead of 100. Gotta keep it real, right…?
Feel free to mock him. Everyone else does…
