I don’t think that is an earth shattering discovery and I won’t win any awards, but I thought it would be a good idea to give some examples of things you may be looking into, awish list of sorts…

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Dr Timmerman a Cosmetic Specialist?

There is no official or recognized specialty in cosmetic dentistry, so any dentist can claim to do cosmetics. This puts the burden on the patient to do their homework to determine if their chosen dentist is capable. Common methods are to ask for photos of cases they have personally done (and not photos that were purchased in a catalog), to ask for testimonials of satisfied patients, or to ask where they got their cosmetic training. Dr Timmerman has done hundreds of hours in cosmetic training including courses at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. As a graduate of LVI he has attained a level of training that less than 2% of dentists nationally have achieved.

  • Do you only do cosmetics?

While Dr Timmerman is highly trained and experienced with cosmetic dentistry, our practice is a general dental practice and can offer all types of dental care. Our practice is not limited in any way, so the entire family is welcome here.

  • Do you see children?

We love children. Dr Timmerman has three daughters that he loves very much and enjoys seeing their friends. Sometimes children need special help and we have a great relationship with a local pediatric dentist for those that need extra help.

  • Is Dr Timmerman a TMJ specialist?

There is no specialty for treating TMJ disorders, so any dentist can limit their practice to TMJ disorders and claim to be a TMJ specialist. Similar to cosmetic dentistry, patients must do some homework to find if their chosen dentist has training and experience to help. TMJ care is a controversial subject and there exist many passionate opinions on how best to treat a person’s condition. It is important to understand the methods, philosophy and training that a dentist has before a patient begins care. Dr Timmerman has spent many hours learning how to treat jaw problems and uses very sophisticated computerized equipment to accurately treat his patients.

  • I have medical insurance and a TMJ condition. Do you bill medical?

We ask for payment in full and we give you the completed medical forms for you to submit so that you can get a refund. We have unique software that helps us process medical forms for you.

  • Do you make payment plans?

To control our costs and keep our fees low for you, we have eliminated billing in our office. As a result we work with several companies that can help you with a payment plan that can fit your budget.

  • How is your office different?

Since we don’t treat more than one patient at a time, we can focus our attention on each person individually. You will find that the atmosphere is very relaxed and the pace is slow. Our goal is to make this a comfortable experience for each person.

  • If you have so much modern technology does that mean you are expensive?

Our fees are based on our care, skill and judgment and we are proud that they reflect such high quality. The technology allows us to save time and money, so we pass on the savings to our patients. While some people have felt that our fees were high they found that the experience and the results were worth the fee and would gladly send their friends.

6 is the Magic Number

I am often asked How many teeth should I restore for a smile make over? Our answer is always It depends… but we do have strong opinions on what works best. We have seen success with 2, 4, 8 or 10 for a smile, but rarely with 6.

The number 6 has become our magic number, the number we have strong opinions against. When porcelain veneers became more common, when the technology got good enough to allow us to focus on people’s smiles, six was a common number to restore. What we found was a dramatic distraction these smiles became. Rather than enhance someone’s appearance, we created smiles that stuck out.

By doing more, typically 8 or 10 teeth (normally we take a photo and evaluate how many teeth show when a person smiles), we can create a smile that compliments a person’s face. Normally when restoring a smile people wish to lighten the color of their teeth. If a person chooses to do 2 or 4 teeth, then we must keep the teeth the same color. There is nothing wrong with this, but it usually is a compromise in the result.

Give us a call and we can show you examples of why we recomend what we do, and we can show you many cases just like you. 206-241-5533.
