Some companies market products that are made of clear plastic that are designed to move teeth orthodontically. While the idea is solid, the results are rarely what was desired. If “close” is good enough, then there IS satisfaction, but many people today desire perfection.
Brackets and wires have been around for a long time. Recently, advances in technology allow them to be tooth colored, so the results are more predictable and more affordable without compromise in looks. While not COMPLETELY invisible, the tradeoff is worth it!
In the example below, “clearly” the brackets and wires are NOT unattractive!

Which one has the brackets?

Dr Timmerman is a southcenter dentist with many methods to improve a smile. Sometimes simply moving the teeth to a better position is all that is needed, so makeovers aren’t extreme but still significant. As we age, we often become image conscious, and the look of metal brackets is NOT an option!
That is where Invisalign comes in. By using a series of clear plastic trays, or aligners, teeth can be pushed and moved into a more ideal place. For every invisalign case, Dr Timmerman offers FREE bleaching gel as well, so you can improve the color at the same time!

Dr Timmerman has several options for people that desire braces. Invisalign is a fantastic method for many people, yet there are some that desire straight teeth and are not a good fit for Invisalign. Another option is 6 month braces!
These tooth colored brackets are nearly invisible! While not as invisible as Invisalign, they offer many benefits. They may even be faster!

Dr Timmerman was asked recently about Invisalign. A patient was justifiably anxious to get started and wanted to know how long they needed to wait before treatment actually began.
The Invisalign process is really 3 steps. First is a complete exam and diagnostic records. After the impressions are taken, they are shipped to Invisalign and a computer rendition of the planned case is proposed. The second step is approval of the proposal, the “Clincheck” step. Once approved, Align technologies creates the aligners (the trays) and sends them to the dental office. Usually 3 aligners are distributed at a time, but the entire treatment is fabricated at once.
Normally, 2-4 weeks is required for aligner fabrication. Sometimes the wait is a little longer, but the norm is about a month.
Watch this video and see how they are made!

It was asked if wisdom teeth should be removed before invisalign. Specifically, wisdom teeth that were partially or completely impacted. The short answer is yes, they should come out.
Among the reasons for this is that accurate impressions are critical to the success of the case, and by having part of the wisdom teeth interfere in the impression can ruin the case. Looking at the BIG picture, they will create a periodontal challenge and will ultimately NEED removal, but likely associated with pain and discomfort. It really would be best to remove them asap…!
