Seattle Full Mouth Rejuvination

Dr Timmeran gets asked frequently “what EXACTLY is a full mouth rejuvination?”

Essentially, this is a process.  The goal is to restore the entire mouth to the state it was in when the person was around age 23 (assuming everything was GREAT when they were 23).  The teeth are not worn very much, they are white, they look FABULOUS.

What does it take to get this?  It depends.

Call Dr Timmerman at 206-241-5533 to find out what can be done for YOU…

Seattle Tacoma "Instant Orthodontics"

Dr Timmerman doesn’t use the phrase “instant orthodontics” often, because it can be misleading.  Orthodontics is moving teeth, either with brackets and wires or with retainers or Invisalign.  “Instant orthodontics” is in quotes, because while the results are instant, the teeth are not actually moving.

By placing porcelain veneers, teeth can appear straight when in fact they didn’t move at all.  Veneers allow the illusion of alignment as well as gaining proper shapes and desired color.  If done right, the first visit can be so drastic that it looks like an instant change.

Porcelain veneer smile makeovers can be completed in as few as two visits, so if you would like to know more, call 206-241-5533 today!

Dental Fear

Let’s face it.  People hate seeing the dentist.  Dr Timmerman gets told that ALL the time.

Even people that aren’t scared of the person in the white coat hate to go.  What about the people that are TERRIFIED of the dentist.  If the others hate it, these people must despise the visit.

So much so that they just won’t go.  Over time, this neglect can lead to some serious oral problems, many of which have systemic (entire body) problems.  Dental neglect can lead to DEATH (I’m not exaggerating.  Look it up).

Dental fear and dental anxiety can be overcome!  I don’t mean by simply “sucking it up”, but actually overcome.  Dental conscious sedation can allow even the most fearful person to get needed dental care.  Usually a simple pill is all that is needed (sometimes more), but can you imagine getting dental work done and having NO memory of the visit?

Cheap Cosmetic Dentist

There are some things in life that finding the lowest cost makes sense.  Video equipment in one store is the same as another, so the lowest price is a wise search.  But in health care, is that really a good idea?  Would a discount brain surgeon be worth the savings (although in the end, if you are a vegetable, do you really care?)?

A fair amount of our cosmetic cases are redoing work from another dentist.  There are many fantastic dentists out there that really do a wonderful job with cosmetics, but there seem to be MORE that just “prep and pray” that the end result is nice.  And for some people, that is all they want.

If I am redoing work done by others, did the people REALLY save any money?  The fee is NOT less when redoing the work, it is often MORE expensive, since there is MORE work needed when fixing a botched case.  Sometimes when originally 8-10 veneers is all that was needed, a redo is 8-10 veneers AND a few root canals or implants.

Consumers need to do some homework.  Not all dentists are trained equally.  Not all have experience in cosmetics.  If you would like to know more, call 206-241-5533.

Single Front Tooth Crown

One of the greatest challenges Dr Timmerman (and all dentists) have is to restore a single front tooth.  Matching the color of one front tooth can be difficult, as the shade on one side of the tooth is often different than the other side.  Surface texture, if not done well, can be too smooth, so when the light interacts with the smile (like during a cocktail party or other social gathering) the appearance is less than desireable.  Material selection is important as well, since light reacts with different mediums in a variety of ways.  Old fashioned crowns are made with a metal substructure that can block light and make a tooth look opaque and lifeless.

Here is an example of a single front tooth restored.  Can YOU tell which is fake?

An enhanced smile does not always mean restoring multiple teeth, especially if one is satisfied with how everything looks in the first place!  If you would like to know more, call 206-241-5533 today for a free consultation!

Dr Timmerman is often asked what is involved in a cosmetic smile makeover. Hopefully this presentation will help explain the 4 simple steps!

Seattle, Tukwila, Bellevue 6 Month Clear Braces

Dr Timmerman has several options for people that desire braces. Invisalign is a fantastic method for many people, yet there are some that desire straight teeth and are not a good fit for Invisalign. Another option is 6 month braces!

These tooth colored brackets are nearly invisible! While not as invisible as Invisalign, they offer many benefits. They may even be faster!

Wisdom teeth removal before Invisalign?

It was asked if wisdom teeth should be removed before invisalign. Specifically, wisdom teeth that were partially or completely impacted. The short answer is yes, they should come out.

Among the reasons for this is that accurate impressions are critical to the success of the case, and by having part of the wisdom teeth interfere in the impression can ruin the case. Looking at the BIG picture, they will create a periodontal challenge and will ultimately NEED removal, but likely associated with pain and discomfort. It really would be best to remove them asap…!

Best material for dental crowns

As a consultant to other websites, I get to answer questions about dentistry. I will try to share some of these questions and answers here on my blog as well.

It was asked what material is best for a crown. There are many decisions involved in deciding what material is best. If I could, I would do gold for all of them, but hip hop artists are not really who I treat the most…

Today, people want teeth that look like teeth. It used to be that people needed to choose between esthetics or strength, as the “pretty” crowns were not strong. Today, that is not the case. There are many products on the market that are VERY lifelike and VERY strong, so the decision is easy.

I prefer to place an all ceramic material that is bonded in place and has enough translucency to match the adjacent teeth. I won’t say what brand or what material exactly, as products change all the time and I try to stay current on what is best.

Rest assured, what is used in this office is the best money can buy!

Choosing a Cosmetic Dentist

Times have become tough. With photoshop, the internet and items just about ANYONE could purchase, how can you find the right cosmetic dentist for you?

It seems every dentist puts on his stationary “Family and Cosmetic Dentist”. To a degree, this implies that ANY dentist can give you that “red carpet smile”. To be honest, this just isn’t true.

Quite often, if you asked many dentists what they mean by Cosmetic Dentist they will say they do white fillings in addition to the mercury ones. Many of these dentists, when asked to give a perfect “hollywood smile” will decline, or simply put off the patient. They won’t make a referral of any sort, they simply find ways to discourage the patient from moving forward. Some will go so far as to say “what you are asking for just can’t be done…”

This can become very confusing for the consumer. If all dentists are NOT created equal, then how do you choose?

Unfortunately, this means the consumer needs to interview prospective dentists. Most offices will offer a free consultation to answer your questions. You should know that a consultation is NOT an examination. A consult is generally a “chat session” where things are discussed in general terms. If you are wanting to know what would work in your individual case, a clinical examination would be required, and all necessary diagnostic records would be taken. You should expect a fee for this.

Find out from the prospective dentist how many cases they have done (you don’t want to be the first, right?). Find out how unique your specific case is (if you are an odd challenge, can they handle it?). Ask for photos of their own work (dentists can purchase books of beautiful cases that were done by someone else). Ask how they got trained in cosmetics (it is NOT a subject taught in dental school).

But in the end, you need to choose a dentist you can trust. With all the training in the world, fancy photography and cases under their belt, you need to decide if the person with the scary job is someone you trust. That is not an easy or quick decision.
