Invisible Braces

Some companies market products that are made of clear plastic that are designed to move teeth orthodontically.  While the idea is solid, the results are rarely what was desired.  If “close” is good enough, then there IS satisfaction, but many people today desire perfection.

Brackets and wires have been around for a long time.  Recently, advances in technology allow them to be tooth colored, so the results are more predictable and more affordable without compromise in looks.  While not COMPLETELY invisible, the tradeoff is worth it!

In the example below, “clearly” the brackets and wires are NOT unattractive!

Southcenter Invisalign Dentist

Dr Timmerman is a southcenter dentist with many methods to improve a smile.  Sometimes simply moving the teeth to a better position is all that is needed, so makeovers aren’t extreme but still significant.  As we age, we often become image conscious, and the look of metal brackets is NOT an option!

That is where Invisalign comes in.  By using a series of clear plastic trays, or aligners, teeth can be pushed and moved into a more ideal place.  For every invisalign case, Dr Timmerman offers FREE bleaching gel as well, so you can improve the color at the same time!

How long does it take to get trays from Invisalign?

Dr Timmerman was asked recently about Invisalign.  A patient was justifiably anxious to get started and wanted to know how long they needed to wait before treatment actually began.

The Invisalign process is really 3 steps.  First is a complete exam and diagnostic records.  After the impressions are taken, they are shipped to Invisalign and a computer rendition of the planned case is proposed.  The second step is approval of the proposal, the “Clincheck” step.  Once approved, Align technologies creates the aligners (the trays) and sends them to the dental office.  Usually 3 aligners are distributed at a time, but the entire treatment is fabricated at once.

Normally, 2-4 weeks is required for aligner fabrication.  Sometimes the wait is a little longer, but the norm is about a month.

Watch this video and see how they are made!

Wisdom teeth removal before Invisalign?

It was asked if wisdom teeth should be removed before invisalign. Specifically, wisdom teeth that were partially or completely impacted. The short answer is yes, they should come out.

Among the reasons for this is that accurate impressions are critical to the success of the case, and by having part of the wisdom teeth interfere in the impression can ruin the case. Looking at the BIG picture, they will create a periodontal challenge and will ultimately NEED removal, but likely associated with pain and discomfort. It really would be best to remove them asap…!

Choosing a Cosmetic Dentist

Times have become tough. With photoshop, the internet and items just about ANYONE could purchase, how can you find the right cosmetic dentist for you?

It seems every dentist puts on his stationary “Family and Cosmetic Dentist”. To a degree, this implies that ANY dentist can give you that “red carpet smile”. To be honest, this just isn’t true.

Quite often, if you asked many dentists what they mean by Cosmetic Dentist they will say they do white fillings in addition to the mercury ones. Many of these dentists, when asked to give a perfect “hollywood smile” will decline, or simply put off the patient. They won’t make a referral of any sort, they simply find ways to discourage the patient from moving forward. Some will go so far as to say “what you are asking for just can’t be done…”

This can become very confusing for the consumer. If all dentists are NOT created equal, then how do you choose?

Unfortunately, this means the consumer needs to interview prospective dentists. Most offices will offer a free consultation to answer your questions. You should know that a consultation is NOT an examination. A consult is generally a “chat session” where things are discussed in general terms. If you are wanting to know what would work in your individual case, a clinical examination would be required, and all necessary diagnostic records would be taken. You should expect a fee for this.

Find out from the prospective dentist how many cases they have done (you don’t want to be the first, right?). Find out how unique your specific case is (if you are an odd challenge, can they handle it?). Ask for photos of their own work (dentists can purchase books of beautiful cases that were done by someone else). Ask how they got trained in cosmetics (it is NOT a subject taught in dental school).

But in the end, you need to choose a dentist you can trust. With all the training in the world, fancy photography and cases under their belt, you need to decide if the person with the scary job is someone you trust. That is not an easy or quick decision.

Invisalign Seattle

Visit Seattle Cosmetic Dentist, Dr.Lance B.Timmerman for the invisible way to straighten your teeth, without braces.

  • Invisalign can give you the beautiful straight teeth you’ve always wanted.
  • It works through a series of invisible aligners that no one can tell you’re wearing.
  • So you can smile more during treatment as well as after.

What is Invisalign and how does it work?

The Invisalign System is a series of clear orthodontic appliances, called aligners that are implemented bySeattle cosmetic dentist, Dr. Lance Timmerman, that allow you to straighten your teeth without having to wear traditional braces. Each pair of aligners in the series is worn in two-week increments and moves the teeth in small steps to the desired final position.

What are the primary benefits of using Invisalign?

  • Undetectable- The clear aligners are virtually invisible to others.
  • Removable-The aligners are removable for eating, brushing and flossing.
  • Comfortable- The aligners are comfortable to wear, since there are no brackets,

    wires or permanent fixtures.

What are the aligners made of?

The aligners are made of a clear medical-grade polymer, or plastic.

How much does the Invisilign system cost?

As with braces, the cost of the Invisalign System depends on the complexity of your case and your course of treatment. Contact Dr.Lance B.Timmerman for more information.

Is this a completely new way to straighten teeth?

For years, orthodontists have used removable appliances for very limited treatment. Invisalign applies new computer technology to this proven science to treat a broader range of cases with greater precision.

Is Invisalign right for all patients?

The Invisalign System is an alternative to braces for patients who have full adult dentition and complete jaw growth, and it is effective on a broad range of cases. Dr. Timmerman, yourSeattle cosmetic dentist, can determine if you are a good candidate during an initial exam.
