A common issue today is receding gums. In the past, it was said someone was old when they got “long in the tooth”, meaning receding gums was a sign of aging. As the gums recede, so does the bone and tooth loss can be a result. Exposed root surfaces can be sensitive with no real long term alternative solution available.
Dr Timmerman offers minimally invasive treatment to put the gums BACK! A fairly quick procedure, Dr Timmerman can create thicker tissues or cover up the receeding areas. If you have receding gums, in one area or several, call 206-241-5533 to find out what can be done for YOU!

Dr Timmerman is excited to offer digital dental impressions by Cadent. The iTero machine allows for impression taking WITHOUT gooey gunk. No gagging, but the best part is the accuracy.

iTero captures the prep, emails the info, creates CAD/CAM models which are sent to the dental lab for final crown/bridge/veneer fabrication.

The accuracy is unsurpassed. Most crowns are placed permanently in the mouth with NO adjustments. From a patient comfort perspective, wouldn’t it be nice to come in and mere minutes later be on the road again? All dental impression materials distort to a degree and talented labs must compensate. With iTero, there is no need to compensate and the accuracy and fit are simply a given.
If you would like the best that dentistry has to offer, call 206-241-5533!

Dr Timmerman uses digital xrays during his diagnostic exams. These images can be seen VERY well on a computer screen and use up to 90% less radiation than conventional film. With the enhanced visualization, disease can be caught in earlier stages, and patients understanding increases as they do not need to strain their eyes and pretend to see what Dr Timmerman insists is present!
Digital x-rays are also good for the environment. No longer is there any chemical waste that was used in the processing of the films. If you want to see an office that does not pollute and uses less radiation, call 206-241-5533!

At the end of 2005, Dr Timmerman moved his Renton Dental practice 2 miles to a much more accessible location. The Tukwila location was more functional and more convenient, but it IS a new city and the extra stop light made the drive an extra 4 minutes for some.
The drive is worth it. With all of the modern conveniences that the new office offers those 2 miles are an afterthought. Dr Timmerman is a family dentist and can treat the entire family, not just adults seeking cosmetic enhancements.
If you are in Renton and want a family dental practice that can “offer just a little more”, call 206-241-5533

Dr Timmerman has many patients that want to avoid mercury in any form. Why is that? Mercury is a neurotoxin, in any dose. The debate rages on regarding the safety in amalgam fillings, with many convinced that “acceptable levels” are not acceptable.
Regardless of the mercury content, mercury free alternatives are readily available. These alternatives are typically bonded in place, resulting in a stronger tooth and look better too.
If you don’t want mercury in YOUR mouth, or your KID’S mouth, call 206-241-5533 today!

In the past, mercury amalgam fillings were the only choice when filling decayed teeth. This level of technology was developed around the time of the Civil War, so it stands to reason that dental care has come a long way. Many dentists continue to use mercury amalgam exclusively when filling teeth.
Today, tooth colored composite fillings are a great alternative. Dr Timmerman has been placing composite fillings exclusively (never places mercury amalgam fillings) ever since graduating from dental school. Mercury amalgam is a material that he would never place in his daughters teeth, and offers the same level of care for his patients.
Modern composite fillings are not only better looking than mercury amalgams, but better for your teeth. Since they bond to the tooth, they support it (unlike amalgams, which often cause fractures to the teeth). The bond also prevents microleakage along the margins, meaning recurrent decay is not an issue, like it is with amalgam. The wear rate is similar to tooth structure, so composites mimic natural teeth better than amalgam does.
If you want to upgrade your amalgams, or need a filling and don’t want amalgam, call 206-241-5533 today!

One of the greatest challenges Dr Timmerman (and all dentists) have is to restore a single front tooth. Matching the color of one front tooth can be difficult, as the shade on one side of the tooth is often different than the other side. Surface texture, if not done well, can be too smooth, so when the light interacts with the smile (like during a cocktail party or other social gathering) the appearance is less than desireable. Material selection is important as well, since light reacts with different mediums in a variety of ways. Old fashioned crowns are made with a metal substructure that can block light and make a tooth look opaque and lifeless.
Here is an example of a single front tooth restored. Can YOU tell which is fake?
An enhanced smile does not always mean restoring multiple teeth, especially if one is satisfied with how everything looks in the first place! If you would like to know more, call 206-241-5533 today for a free consultation!

Times have become tough. With photoshop, the internet and items just about ANYONE could purchase, how can you find the right cosmetic dentist for you?
It seems every dentist puts on his stationary “Family and Cosmetic Dentist”. To a degree, this implies that ANY dentist can give you that “red carpet smile”. To be honest, this just isn’t true.
Quite often, if you asked many dentists what they mean by Cosmetic Dentist they will say they do white fillings in addition to the mercury ones. Many of these dentists, when asked to give a perfect “hollywood smile” will decline, or simply put off the patient. They won’t make a referral of any sort, they simply find ways to discourage the patient from moving forward. Some will go so far as to say “what you are asking for just can’t be done…”
This can become very confusing for the consumer. If all dentists are NOT created equal, then how do you choose?
Unfortunately, this means the consumer needs to interview prospective dentists. Most offices will offer a free consultation to answer your questions. You should know that a consultation is NOT an examination. A consult is generally a “chat session” where things are discussed in general terms. If you are wanting to know what would work in your individual case, a clinical examination would be required, and all necessary diagnostic records would be taken. You should expect a fee for this.
Find out from the prospective dentist how many cases they have done (you don’t want to be the first, right?). Find out how unique your specific case is (if you are an odd challenge, can they handle it?). Ask for photos of their own work (dentists can purchase books of beautiful cases that were done by someone else). Ask how they got trained in cosmetics (it is NOT a subject taught in dental school).
But in the end, you need to choose a dentist you can trust. With all the training in the world, fancy photography and cases under their belt, you need to decide if the person with the scary job is someone you trust. That is not an easy or quick decision.
