    Tooth-Colored White Fillings

There’s no need to keep using silver amalgam fillings when there’s a better option. Cosmetic dentist Dr. Lance Timmerman implements tooth-colored composite restorations in his dental office. Composite fillings bond with the tooth to help rebuild the enamel rather than simply patch it up like a silver filling.

With a tooth-colored filling, your teeth will match each other, and the composite fillings will blend right in – there won’t be any dark grey or silver areas showing when you laugh or talk. Tooth-colored fillings are the most conservative type of restoration available for minor cavities.

    White fillings are perfect for:

    Mercury Free, Minimally Invasive

White fillings are metal and mercury free. Most of them will last as long as 10 years when cared for properly. Since the material is capable of bonding with your tooth, composite fillings are the least invasive type of restoration available.

Using this method allows Dr. Timmerman to maximize the amount of healthy tooth structure already in your mouth, leading to a stronger repair and healthier smile overall.

    Tooth-Colored Fillings FAQs

iscover answers to the most common inquiries about these popular dental restorations. Learn about the benefits, procedure, and care involved in tooth-colored fillings, which blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, providing both durability and aesthetic appeal.
Tooth-colored fillings, also known as composite fillings, are made of a mixture of plastic and fine glass particles. This composite material is designed to match the color of natural teeth, providing a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional silver amalgam fillings.
Tooth-colored fillings have greatly improved in durability over the years and can withstand normal biting and chewing forces. While silver amalgam fillings were traditionally considered more durable, tooth-colored fillings are now a popular and reliable option for most cavities.
The placement of tooth-colored fillings involves removing the decayed portion of the tooth, preparing the cavity, and then layering and shaping the composite material directly onto the tooth. A special curing light is used to harden the material, and the filling is then polished to match the natural tooth surface.
Tooth-colored fillings do not require any special care or maintenance beyond good oral hygiene practices. It is important to brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily, and visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings, just as you would with any other type of filling.
Yes, tooth-colored fillings can be used on both front and back teeth. They are versatile and can be customized to match the color and shade of your natural teeth, making them virtually indistinguishable.
Tooth-colored fillings are generally slightly more expensive than silver amalgam fillings. The cost difference is due to the materials used and the additional time and skill required for placement. However, the price may vary depending on the size and location of the cavity and the dental practice.
Yes, tooth-colored fillings can be used to replace old silver amalgam fillings. This is often done for cosmetic reasons or if the silver amalgam filling is deteriorating or causing other issues. Your dentist can evaluate the condition of your old filling and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
Tooth sensitivity after getting a tooth-colored filling is uncommon. However, some individuals may experience temporary sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures immediately following the procedure. This sensitivity typically subsides within a few days.
The lifespan of tooth-colored fillings varies depending on factors such as the size and location of the filling, oral hygiene practices, and individual habits. On average, tooth-colored fillings can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years or more with proper care.
Tooth-colored fillings can resist staining, but they may become slightly discolored over time if proper oral hygiene is not maintained. Avoiding excessive consumption of foods and drinks that can stain teeth, such as coffee and red wine, can help prevent discoloration. Regular dental cleanings can also help maintain the appearance of tooth-colored fillings.

All on x dental implant procedure… Dr. Timmerman and his staff changed my life. My whole experience was nothing short of amazing. Holly from day one was completely upfront and helpful through the whole 6 month procedure, always friendly , and happy to answer every question I had. And I had a TON of questions !! Their other two staff members, Breonna (I’m sure I spelled that wrong sorry! ) and Dr. Timmerman’s dental assistant Tuba, couldn’t have been more kind.
