Cost for Porcelain Veneers?
A common question is the cost for porcelain veneers. The quick answer is: a single veneer will cost about the same as a single crown, and every office will have a different fee for that (but usually roughly the same).
However, doing a smile makeover is much different than fixing a single tooth, and the fees are not simply a factor of number treated. If a single tooth in $200, then ten teeth is NOT $2000 (200 times 10).
Porcelain Veneer Smile Makeovers are Complicated
Most dentists can do a single crown or two. Many can do it very well (but not all). But only experienced cosmetic dentists can comfortably and predictably do smile makeovers with porcelain veneers. A lot goes into the planning, both with input from the patient and communicating with the lab.
If a smile makeover is not done by using a special wax “blueprint” before starting the case, and the style of teeth are not chosen by the patient in advance of treatment, then it is possible the dentist is not experienced and the results may not be satisfactory. Experienced cosmetic dentists will show the many previous cases they have personally done (and not a book of smiles they bought on the internet).

The additional time and lab expenses will be included in the fee for the smile makeover, so while a person could take their case fee and divide by the number of teeth treated, that isn’t really how the fee was determined. Quite often if people call to ask “How much is a single crown?” they are assuming then that a smile makeover will be that fee times (number of teeth). It is not.
